>Opera Singer Fights Death Threats to Sing Sinatra Former professional opera singer, Steve Cardone is paying a price for singing like The Chairman of the board. He is so close critics say to Sinatra that diehard Sinatra fans are calling in with death threats. Distribution Source : PRWeb Date : Wednesday - October 13, 2004 Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 13, 2004 -- Atlanta based professional opera singer, Steve Cardone quit a promising opera career in 2002 to just sing Sinatra. Little did he know that he would cause quite a stir with diehard Frank Sinatra fans. Critics have always claimed that there would never be another singer like Frank Sinatra, but this impressive Verdi Baritone, with two hit songs and critical acclaim from his recent debut CD seem to be doing the impossible. For over twelve years, Steve Cardone thrilled audiences in Atlanta as the leading baritone with The Capital City Opera Company. His switch from singing Verdi to singing My Funny Valentine came from what he says was "A dramatic difference in audience appreciation and applause." Cardone says "he never got the high from singing opera that he gets from singing Sinatra." A quote from Jazzreview.com says "His Pennies From Heaven is uncanny in it"s similarity to the original Sinatra." This singers tone and power is so similar to the old Reprise days Sinatra that some critics and radio stations are claiming that he is even better than Sinatra. This press is not sitting well with true diehard Sinatraphiles, and some are up in arms and sending telephone death threat to Cardone"s record company. The phone calls started within weeks after his version of "My Funny Valentine" hit the adult contemporary charts. In August, when the song hit the top ten the threats increased. A Cardone Records representative says that "thinking about what happened to John Lennon makes us take these threats very seriously." They jokingly said that "we"ll have to borrow the Pope"s bubble when we go on tour." To attempt to buffer the situation Cardone is stating that "I"m not trying to be better than Sinatra. My goal is to simply keep Sinatra"s music alive to future generations." Cardone also stated that Sinatra"s music helped changed the world, especially for repressed immigrants who used his music to speak out and to live. He also talked about how Sinatra was the founder of phrasing as singers know it today.
